Review - Colour Me In by Jaz Higgins

Colour Me In is the debut coloring book from Australian artist Jaz Higgins. It features 24 cute hand drawn illustrations of her signature feminine girl figures in a variety of  scenes, from oceans and gardens to parties. The charming artwork is easy to color and while suitable for both adults and kids alike, it has a  feel that’s more suited to younger audiences. The girl figure is a bit repetitive but offers the chance to practice the same elements.

Our colorists explore some of the pages below.

Colorist Linda Woltil Allison used her signature coloring mix of Prismacolor Premier, CastleArts, Koh-I-Noor and Phoenixcolor pencils with LePlumme dual tip brush/fineliners for her pages (above.)

These pages were colored by Cher Reneé, with Prisma Premiere pencils,  Ohuhu markers, Distress Oxide, and and Versa Magic multi-surface chalk ink.

Colorist, Kimberly Egberts, used Bruynzeel Expression colored pencils and Ecoline Brush Pens for base for the above left pages. She said  “I used a brush marker base on the dress girl page, and went over it with colored pencils, applying the same principles for both pages from that point onwards. I went from dark to light, blending the lighter color with the darker, and moving towards the lighter color accordingly. As the pencils leave many traces, I made sure I followed the outlines and forms of the different elements as best as I could.” Ilona Szajnicka used this page (above right) to experiment with her alcohol markers.
